Data Source Choices
FactoryWidgets® work with a variety of types of systems. Presently we support two types of data sources: OPC Data Access (DA) or Wonderware Historian. In the future, additional data sources will be available.
The WidgetServer component can reside on the same computer as your data source or a different computer. A single WidgetServer can pull data from multiple data sources. This will become particularly powerful as additional data source types are added, allowing the WidgetServer to unify data from many automation systems and deliver it to desktops.
OPC Data Access
The WidgetServer can communicate with any OPC DA 2.x compliant server. This means the WidgetServer will work with all the common OPC Servers like TOP Server, OmniServer, INGEAR, Kepware, Matrikon, RSLinx and many more. If you do not already have an OPC Server, Software Toolbox offers connectivity to over 100 different device types. Click here for more information about the OPC Servers we offer.
If the WidgetServer and OPC Server are on different computers you will want to review our DCOM Tutorial.
Wonderware Historian
The WidgetServer can also communicate with Wonderware Historian 9.0 and higher via the read-only “runtime” table.

Contact us if you have questions about a system configuration that you would like to implement using FactoryWidgets as the possibilities are more than we can show on a single web page. You can also see more details about configuring the WidgetServer here.
