FactoryWidgets License Options
FactoryWidgets® licenses are managed completely at the WidgetServer level. FactoryWidgets licensing is based on the number of FactoryWidgets in use, regardless of the number of computers and mix of widgets in use. Adding additional licenses is done quickly and easily at the WidgetServer Configurator.
There is nothing to install on the client/user PCs for WidgetServer licenses! It’s all managed at the WidgetServer.
A WidgetServer can manage its licensing in one of three modes:
- Concurrent - any user can connect to the WidgetServer and connect FactoryWidgets up to the limit of the available licenses on the WidgetServer.
- Seat - users may add FactoryWidgets to their desktop up to the number of Widgets allocated to them by the administrator of the WidgetServer. Licenses are tied to a specific user and computer name.
- Mixed - this mode is a mix of concurrent and seat licensing. The WidgetServer administrtor would allocate some number of widgets to a particular user and computer name. The remaining widgets would then be available as part of the concurrent use pool.
|
Example - Viewing Available License count - the WidgetServer Configurator always shows you the number of FactoryWidgets you are licensed for and the total number in use. If a user tries to connect to the Widget Server, and a license is not available, regardless of mode, they will see a License Not Available message. A quick check on the screens below by the administrator will allow them to see who is using licenses, release those licenses or change allocations. Simple administration.

Example - Seat Mode: In the example below, there are 3 active users in a system with Seat/named user licensing mode. The second screenshot shows how licenses have been allocated to the different user computers

Example - Concurrent Mode: In this example there is no “User Licenses” tab to view as licenses are simply allocated to users as they connect to the WidgetServer. The “-1” under Allowed Widgets is because every user is allowed unlimited widgets - their usage is simply limited by the total Widgets available at the Widget Server.

Example - Mixed Mode: In this example let us assume we are licensed to use 100 Widgets. We then allocate 50 across any number of specific users. That means that 50 would be left in the pool for concurrent use. In the User Licenses tab you would see the licenses you have allocated to each user. In the Active User tab you would see the named and concurrent licenses in use. The Allowed Widgets for the concurrent licenses would always show -1 because every user is allowed unlimited widgets - their usage is simply limited by the total Widgets available at the Widget Server.
