Using FactoryWidgets on Windows XP and 2008 R2 Desktops
The Windows Sidebar is not natively part of Windows XP, 2008 or 2008 R2. However, there are tools available to enable the Windows Sidebar functionality on these operating systems.*
Windows XP
In order to enable Windows XP to run the Windows Sidebar you will need the two parts listed below.
These parts are made available free of charge through a creative commons license by their provider. CLICK TO DOWNLOAD (Offsite Link)
- Alky for Applications - install and then reboot when done, whether prompted to or not. Adds the necessary API’s to run the Windows Sidebar
- Windows Sidebar Installer for XP - installs the necessary Windows Sidebar files and fonts on your PC. After installation, you must reboot, whether prompted to or not.
Windows 2008 and 2008 R2
In order to enable Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 to run the Windows Sidebar you will need the one item listed below. There is a separate download for x86 and x64.
